V-the Market’s Wines: Six for $Sixty-Something + Wine Salon with 5 Stellar WinesTomorrow, Wed., Aug. 7th Danville, KY

August 7, 2012 2:12 pm | POSTED BY Mary Robin

New at V-Market August:  Six For Sixty something… In this case, $63 (plus tax)  Read on…These are terrific wines…

1)  Santa Julia 2010 Torrontes:

Organically grown grapes make super-aromatic, very dry white wine in Mendoza, Argentina. Dry Muscat-like orange blossoms and Indian spice nose. Taste white peaches, nectarines, Meyer lemons. Good, bright acidity and light yet intense body. Ideal drinking on a nice, warm day by the pool or the lake.  Take a look at this review entitled:

Santa Julia Torrontes: Like Drinking Fresh Flowers :

2)  Palazzone Ubrian Dubini Bianco-Here’s a stunning value for anyone who loves Italian white wines – or just wants a juicy, crisp, and really tasting white wine at a great price to cut the humidity of August.  The wine is made by Palazzone, the estate Steve Tanzer called, ““Unquestionably the number one small estate of Orvieto.”  Made from the younger vines that would otherwise go into the estate’s Orvieto, this is a beautiful, lively white from Umbria. Green apple, lime and watermelon flavours with a zesty mid palate. Great on its own, with salads or fish.

3)  Bellechasse Bordeaux Blanc-This has been flying off the shelves because it is a well-balance sauvignon blanc that is great for roast/grilled chicken, seafood or as a cocktail wine.  The price is right, too!

4)  2010 Elicio Grenache-Merlot- A French Gem that is outstanding for the price!

This wine is made from a careful selection of young vines growing on chalky and clay soils in the Southeast of the Rhone Valley. Aged in concrete tanks 8 months with temperature controlled fermentation. This fulfilling wine evokes the warm and fruity flavors of its sunny region. A young wine, packed with fresh notes of cherry, strawberry, and raspberry wrapped up in a tornado of intense flavors and soft white and black spices. Round, very fruit forward, this extreme value wine can be enjoyed with your everyday meals or by itself. Elicio, simply delicious!

50% Grenache – 50% Merlot

5)  Melini Chianti Borghi d’Elsa 2010

Category: Red Wine
Varietal: Sangiovese, Cannaiolo, Malvasia Nera, Trebbiano
Region: Italy » Tuscany » Chianti
Producer: Melini
Alcohol: 12.5%The 2010 Borghi D’Elsa has intense, fragrant and elegant aromas of blackberries and raspberries, with violet and Florentine iris notes. On the palate, the taste is dry, full, harmonious and slightly tannic, with an elegant aftertaste of toasted almond and fruits of the forest.Wine Spectator

Rich, with a floral wild berry edge to the cherry and strawberry core, this red also picks up a licorice note as it plays out. Firm, yet balanced and long. Drink now through 2016.

Score: 89. —Bruce Sanderson, October 31, 2011.

6)  Brondello Nero d’Avola Sicily 2010-Rustic, Earthy with touch of spice for a solid, well-balanced Sicilian Red…

about the grape (from wikipedia below)

Nero d’Avola (“Black of Avola” in Italian) is “the most important red wine grape in Sicily“[1] and is one of Italy’s most important indigenous varieties. It is named after Avola in the far south of Sicily and its wines are compared to New World Shirazes, with sweet tannins and plum or peppery flavours.

We have these values, plus this event on Wednesday of this week: Another 5 great wines!
